I love this. Peeta's my favorite Hunger Games character and I would love think that he'd grow to be old and wise. The recipes are a nice touch. Adding the story to my favorites.
Jan. 19th, 2011 12:11 pm (UTC)
Thank you so much! I'm so glad/excited/honored that you think I did Peeta justice -- he's definitely one of the characters that I feel like I HAVE to get Right or I've ruined the entire everything of everything in the world.
Jan. 19th, 2011 03:29 pm (UTC)
Aw, this made me smile. Normally, the post-Mockingjay ones I read are full of broken people but I like that you've created a fresh take on it. Amazing &hearts
Jan. 20th, 2011 04:32 am (UTC)
Thank you! My biggest goal with the story was to write a positive post-Mockingjay story, since I've seen so few (and most of those are largely PWP, haha).
Jan. 19th, 2011 04:03 pm (UTC)
This was so lovely, I could easily see Peeta being this way. The part with Rue's brother is probably my favorite. I also love what you did with the recipes.
Jan. 20th, 2011 04:32 am (UTC)
Thank you so much!
Jan. 19th, 2011 04:28 pm (UTC)
I burst into tears when you got to the part about Rue's little brother. This whole fic was stunning and lovely, but I wanted to say.
Jan. 20th, 2011 04:33 am (UTC)
Oh, wow, coming from you that's a HUGE compliment. Your Finnick pieces make me sob; I keep meaning to go back and reread/comment coherently, because they're seriously brilliant.
Jan. 19th, 2011 04:31 pm (UTC)
So cute :D
Jan. 20th, 2011 04:33 am (UTC)
Thank you so much! :)
Jan. 19th, 2011 04:48 pm (UTC)
This is amazingly written - my only criticism is that Cinna was KATNISS' stylist. Peeta had PORTIA, and I do wish people wouldn't erase her. It would have been Portia who took Peeta's measurements.
Jan. 19th, 2011 07:42 pm (UTC)
Very true -- but I was under the impression (and I may well be wrong) that Portia was Peeta's designer as a member of Cinna's design team, so in terms of who would be talking to them and getting the concept for how to present District 12, I felt like it would still have been Cinna, because it was his idea to present them as lovers on fire.

Unless he got the idea from entirely separately talking to Haymitch, but that would be another fic entirely.

I loved and adored this.

Thank you!! Pee ess :P

This was bittersweet and very nicely done. I enjoy seeing the recipes to the side, too. :)

Ahh, thank you so much!

Hey, aren't you the mod of sixteenmoons? I keep wishing that Beautiful Creatures had a larger fandom, if that IS you (and I'm revealing my true creeperdom).

Wow. That's astonishingly good! I was so moved by that. I loved your Peeta, I loved your vision of what Panem became. This is fantastic! Thanks for sharing it!
Jan. 20th, 2011 04:38 am (UTC)
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you liked it; I worried that people would hate the idea of a truly post-Rebellion Panem.

Really beautiful. A simply lovely look at life after and how it carries on. I especially like that you added the recipes at the sides. A sweet and smiple touch.

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it! :)

To be a little nitpicky, Peeta killed Brutus in the Quarter Quell too. But ahh, that's a minor detail ♥ I love what you did with the recipes, I love the perspective of old!Peeta, and it's such a beautiful fic.
Jan. 20th, 2011 03:26 am (UTC)
True! I thought that happened "off-screen" (from the viewers'/historians' perspective) in the world of the Capitol, though, because the cameras were following the other action when he did it? Or did I read it backwards and that was shown while Katniss was focused elsewhere...? (It's entirely likely I remember that backwards, tbqh.)

Call me completely oblivious to details and a bit too lax~ for canon but this was AMAZINGBEAUTIFULINSIGHTFULTOUCHINGBRILLIANTETCSOFORTH.

I loved the ~idea of this. The corresponding recipes. The character insight. The small moments and meanings and thoughtfulness put into each part.

So good. I don't even have words for this.

You are like my Peeta, Peeta/Katniss, HG drug dealer. Addicted. So passionately addicted.

Jan. 21st, 2011 07:27 am (UTC)
:DDDDDDD Thank you! I'm so excited that you liked it; I really hoped you would, haha. Thanks!

I love when authors create new (or continuing) worlds with the characters/situations set forth in novels. I think that's the beauty of fanfic - capturing different perspectives/viewpoints that we don't get in the original works.

Peeta's point of view here, filtered through that which he loved most - baking - is stunning. I love how everything has a purpose and a memory attached, so consistent with his thorough nature.

All of the pieces individually are wonderful, but together they are simply GORGEOUS. The recipes are such a clever touch too.

Thank you so much for sharing!
Jan. 22nd, 2011 07:18 am (UTC)
This is such a lovely comment; I love that you really took the time to respond to the purpose behind the piece. Thank you so much!
Feb. 4th, 2011 09:35 am (UTC)
This is just lovely. I really like that you can do angst and fluff.
I really loved the line about Cinna and the number about cakes (rue and after finnick.)
i had never thought about peeta growing grandfather/great grandfather old. i think this fits him perfectly though.
Feb. 4th, 2011 10:51 pm (UTC)
Thank you so much for reading! :D
Feb. 21st, 2011 05:06 pm (UTC)
Wonderful story but just one thing, I though Peeta killed at least two people in the arena, Foxface with the berries (which was an accident) but also the girl who made the fire and caught the career's attention, the careers attack her and think they've killed her but the cannon doesn't fire to Peeta finishes her off. It's unclear whether that was a mercy kill or if she was just slower to die.

Also it's possible he killed more people at the Cornucopia in order to prove his worth to the Careers from the outset.
Feb. 21st, 2011 06:48 pm (UTC)
As far as I know, SC has said that Peeta's only confirmed kill was Foxface and that the Career girl was not Peeta's. She did some interview with Scholastic somewhere and mentioned that.

This is exactly what I needed to read after the Rue fic. Peeta's one of my favorite characters in the trilogy, and I like the idea of this future for him after everything the Capitol and Games put him through. <333
Mar. 7th, 2011 04:10 am (UTC)
Thank you! This was a really fun fic to write, honestly. I LOVE Foxface, so I was excited to get to utilize her.
Mar. 20th, 2011 12:11 pm (UTC)
there are very few people who live there who can still remember life before Peeta Mellark kept a basket of hundreds of Primrose Dots, pink and dainty, on the counter for children’s greedy, grateful fingers, and refused to take a single coin for them.
This was the moment where your fic made me choke on my salad. This is so sad and so lovely at the same time, and I love how he upholds Prim's memory by an act of kindness.

The format of the fic is pure genius, and I love how you developed and portrayed Cinna's role in the uprisings.

A few months later, a beautiful dark-skinned boy wearing almost-rags and timid eyes walked into Mellark Bakery, and said that he was the brother of Rue, from the 74th Hunger Games, and he was getting married. He wanted his wedding cake to be covered in flowers.
Second time you made tears appear in my eyes while reading. You're brilliant, and talented, and I cannot even properly express how much I adore your writing. Consider me a fan.

Oh, I never got a notification for this!

Thank you! I absolutely love the amount of detail and time you've put into commenting -- it makes me really happy. :) I'm so glad that you enjoyed the moments of Rue's brother and Prim's memory! Those were my favorite to write, too. :)

^_____________^ Thank you! I'm so glad that you liked it. :D

the idea of bounty after the stripped-whipped raw ferocity and famine of Hunger Games. The idea prospect of Hunger being so systematically and diligently obliterated in a personal, singular sort of way. It's like Peeta wants to solve everything

That's exactly what I hoped it read like. :)
Apr. 18th, 2011 02:43 am (UTC)
This is so creative. I love it.

This is just STUNNING, and wow, as much of a sucker I am for tragedy, I kind of love seeing happy fic post!Mockingjay, and this? It's glorious.
Apr. 26th, 2011 07:59 am (UTC)
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked it. :) I love Peeta!fluff, but I always feel like Katniss!fluff is hard to get in-character, so... this was my attempt at Peeta-only fluff? Haha
Apr. 25th, 2011 04:58 am (UTC)
I adore character pieces, especiallys one with such a simple, meaningful layout such as this. It's really well done, I applaud your talents. I enjoy reading the subtlties and fervantly hope that Katniss and Peeta experience a future something like this.
Apr. 26th, 2011 08:16 am (UTC)
Thank you! I do, too. I really wonder about Peeta's ability to fully recover, because the bounce-back he had between THG and CF, followed by the total breakdown in Mockingjay, makes my head spin. All the same, he's literally the symbol of goodness and love, so I have faith that he would be able to help District Twelve, Katniss, and himself all heal. :)
Jun. 5th, 2011 06:17 am (UTC)
Amazing!!! Truly! I'm in awe of this. Its perfection. I had tears in my eyes for Prim's and Rue's brother and I was so hoping there would be a Katniss recipe and it was just right. I just love that there things all tied into the most important people in their life. And the recipies was such a nice touch, I gotta know, have you made any of them? Please write more!
Jun. 11th, 2011 10:23 am (UTC)
Thank you so much! You know, I haven't tried these particular recipes (which is why I didn't include the methods, just the ingredients!) but I really wanted to include them anyway. :)

AATFK/LATBND → Worth Creating

V. 26.

You've got to think about all the things you like and decide whether they're worth sticking around for. And if they are, you'll find a way to do this.

And what if I don’t?

Then you go away, and you don't get to like anything anymore.
